July 2025 English language course for students from Rome

The Language Ladies have recently completed another successful residential course which this year took place in the picturesque setting of Mousehole in Cornwall followed by a week in Penzance.

The first week was taught by Janet Brooks and the second by Rebecca Jeffrey who both did an excellent job adapting materials to the student’s needs.

The students ranging from A1 to B2 (CEFR) enjoyed two weeks of learning English which focused on improving their listening, speaking and writing skills. The topics on the course this year were chosen to spark student’s interest, and imagination as well as allowing them to develop their skills in the language in a fun way.

The themes definitely had a foodie flavour and included a few hours in the kitchen, recipes in hand, baking a traditional English teatime cake. A morning of ‘chocolate’ was also popular, listening intently to a video of the chocolate journey, students practised listening skills to understand how chocolate is made.

On the last day we all had a Cornish cream tea in the house in Penzance after the students had watched a clip of Paddington and the late Queen having tea at Buckingham Palace.

Cristina is planning to bring some more students for a course next year and we are really looking forward to it.
