The Language Ladies recent residential course in Penzance was a great success. The Italian students from Rome, a B1 and B2 level very much enjoyed the different aspects of the course that focused on improving speaking and listening skills. Janet Brooks and myself, designed the course to give the students a “Cornish” experience.
Prior knowledge of local tourist attractions that they were planning to visit while staying at the Artists house in Penzance enabled us to plan fun activities around these visits. Watching video footage of Coasteering, that takes place nearby, provided an excellent topic to debate the dangers of extreme sport. Beach combing on the beautiful beaches nearby again provided interesting material to write and talk about.
On the last day after having watched a Utube clip of the former Queen and Paddington Bear having tea in Buckingham Palace we gave them a Cornish cream tea combined with smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches and we made sure that all the produce was local.
We hope to replicate a similar course next summer as Cristina, a teacher in Rome, hopes to return with anther cohort of students
