Cancellation of Language Courses in Adult Education

It is an unfortunate fact that at this time of the year many language courses will be cancelled. This is due to two main factors;

  • Low student numbers
  • Cut off deadline a week before the start date

Most courses now require a minimum of 8 students for a course to run. This has changed in recent years as centres have moved away from accredited courses to go down the vocational route. These courses attract less funding so more students have to be recruited.

If there are not enough students a week before the start date the decision will be made to cancel the courses. This is because of the multitude of paperwork which has to be prepared in advance. So you can have a situation where there are 7 students signed up a week before and the course will be cancelled on the cut off date despite more students wanting to sign up at the last minute.

If you have paid for your course and it is cancelled then you will get your money back but the whole process is very frustrating both for tutors and students.

THE LANGUAGE LADIES offer private courses in French, Spanish, Italian, German and Greek. We have small groups with no minimum number of students. We are flexible with start dates and can delay the start of a course if necessary. We do not have masses of time consuming paperwork to complete.
